It is May and in Denmark that means that the lilacs are in full bloom.
To me they are the scent of late spring.
On my way home from work I pass by several lilac bushes (trees?) and every time I pass by I sort of get a reminiscence of childhood and those first warm days where you could play outside without your jacket on. I know that some people think that they are a bit scented but to me they are just the way they should be.
This weekend we visited my parents-in-law. They have two massive lilacs in their garden in two different colors and lucky me I got to bring a huge bouquet with me home.
You can use lilacs for bouquets (just remember to beat up the end of the branches before leaving them in hot water – it keeps them fresh for much longer) and for lilac infused water (I also added lemons)
You can also make a lilac juice/syrup (from lilacs, lemons, sugar, water and citric acid) or you can use the tiny flowers in salads, freeze them with water into ice cubes or maybe candy (crystallize) them? It all seems simple and I think that I will have a go at it.
No matter what it will look so pretty.
